I so enjoyed sharing my Thanksgiving recipes with you and I hope that they inspired you. I am looking forward to Thanksgiving next week. It is one of my favorite holidays. We are very lucky this year that my maternal grandparents will be here for Thanksgiving and my paternal Gramma will be here for Christmas. Love all the family time.
We certainly have a feast on Thanksgiving. My Dad will cook 2 small turkeys! We all prefer the taste and tenderness of small turkeys so we buy 10 to 12 lb turkeys. My hubby will smoke a pork butt for my grandfather who is not a turkey fan. We will have the Mushroom Stuffing I shared the recipe for. We will also have homemade noodles and bread crumbs. Next year I will share that recipe with you. That is also an old family tradition on my Dad’s side. If you have never had fresh noodles with some butter, fresh breadcrumbs and gravy, well, you haven’t lived!!
My Mom makes a cranberry, marshmallow salad, another recipe for next year. We also have a mushroom casserole loaded with heavy cream. I am so working to lighten up that recipe next year. Creamed onions, mashed potatoes will also be on our table. Ugh! I am gaining 5 lbs just thinking about it and I haven’t even gotten to dessert. I have my work cut out for me next year.
On Thanksgiving morning, we will jump in the car and turn up the Christmas music for a short ride to my parent’s house. When we get there, we’ll start on the stuffing. My daughter will sit on the Island and start to break up the bread. The Macy’s Day Parade will be on in the background. We will open a bottle of champagne and have mimosas or in my case just champagne! We’ll have some munchies about mid day and eat about 4pm. We can’t forget to take lots of family pictures and I’m sure my daughter will drag her Great Grandparents outside to watch her swing. Someday she will realize how lucky she is to have Great Grandparents on both sides. I was lucky to have that and glad she is too.
So what do we have for dessert? My Mom is the pie maker. She will whip up a pumpkin pie, a swedish apple pie (yes, next year) and a pecan pie. I will make a bread pudding (recipe in time for Christmas, I promise!). I’m also thinking I need to make some Mini Apple Pecan Pies
What are your family traditions for Thanksgiving? I cannot wait to hear.
