When it comes to Mother’s Day, do you have to plan what your family does to honor you? Or do you have to cook in addition to planning? Strawberry Napoleon is an easy dessert that any cooking-challenged significant other can make. It has all of five ingredients. As long as they don’t burn the wontons, this is a really easy recipe. The kids can help with this one too.
It is such a shame puff pasty and pastry dough is so fattening. It is one of my favorite parts of dessert. So I am always looking for substitutes. Phyllo dough works great in a lot of applications but you have to remember to defrost it. Wontons are simpler. You don’t need to layer them with butter or cooking spray. Just lay the wontons out on a baking sheet. Paint a little butter on them and sprinkle with a little bit of cinnamon sugar. They get crispy and work fantastically for a pastry substitute in this recipe.
I made this dessert first while my in-laws were here for my hubby’s mitro valve surgery. My Father-in-Law has a serious sweet tooth. I was looking for something easy and that would include fruit. Strawberry Napoleon fit the bill perfectly. We took some pictures of the dessert and gave my daughter the “pretty plate of dessert” when we were done. I went to make the desserts for the rest of us. In the few minutes it took me, my daughter had devoured hers and was asking for more. It is quite delicious and would make a great dessert for a dinner party.
You can change-up the fruit depending on what is seasonal and in your frig. When peaches come in season, I will be using them. I cannot wait for our Georgia Peaches to come into season. I can just imagine how good they would be with these. If I had a few extra calories to spare, I would add some Bird’s Custard to these. Do you remember the Bird’s Custard, I used for my Hot Swiss Peach Trifle. Oh, I think I just got an idea for another dessert! Stay tuned for that recipe…
