Review of Breakers Korean BBQ & Grill in Duluth, GA
Breakers Korean BBQ & Grill in Duluth, GA
Breakers Korean BBQ & Grill’s mission is to share the best of Korean culture through its signature barbecue profiles in a first class dining experience.
The atmosphere – This is a modern looking restaurant with white booth’s surrounding black tables with a table top grill in the middle. Beautiful Korean pictures adorn the walls and pieces of Korean pottery was displayed in cases. ♥♥♥♥
The Food – Even though we went for lunch, Breakers does not serve their lunch menu on weekends. So be prepared to pay dinner prices for lunch on the weekend. Each entrée comes with soup, salad, rice and sides. Both times they forgot to bring us rice, but we did not need it. This is a lot of food. We could easily have chosen two entrees for three people. You will have the choice of two soups with your entrée; pumpkin or miso soup. The pumpkin soup is smooth and savory but needed a little salt. The miso soup has bits of nori but no tofu. We enjoyed both of them. You also have your choice of dressings for the salad. I highly recommend the house dressing which is sesame and granny smith apple. The salad is small but lovely. Fresh lettuce, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, cucumber and red onion adorn the plate. They are not shy with the dressing so I would highly recommend you ask for the dressing on the side. I had enough dressing left for another salad. ♥♥♥♥♥
For our entrees, we choice the pork belly, beef bulgogi and pork ribs. All the meat comes very thinly sliced and pre-marinated. Your server will individually cook each meat. As we had our daughter with us, he let her turn the meat and serve it. The server is available to do that for you. Tip: Remember to pace yourself. Each meat is cooked individually. If you want to be able to taste each one, save room.
Once the meat is cooked, it is time to make your wrap. You have a choice of thinly sliced radish or rice paper. They bring out a small amount to begin with. Don’t be shy about asking for more. My favorite was the radish paper, while my husband and daughter loved the rice paper.
Next pick your sides. You will have bowls of kimchi, rice noodles, pickled cucumbers in chili sauce, spicy marinated chayote with jalapeno and bean sprouts. I loved to put a pickle and a piece of chayote on top.
Finally you have two sauce and one salt option; a miso type sauce, gochujang and Himalayan sea salt. I loved to dab a little of each on my wrap. I love to think of this as making mini Korean tacos. There are so many flavor combinations and you can really make this your own.
On our first visit, the owner brought out a plate of the most perfectly fried shrimp. There was no grease, just great crunch and shrimp flavor.
Service – Service was friendly both times we were there. The servers seems knowledgeable, but seems to have too many tables. The servers have to bring many dishes out to the tables as well as cook for those that do not wish to cook the meat themselves. This means they need to spend quite a bit of time at each table. Having more servers would allow for a better dining experience. ♥♥♥½
