Kismet, serendipity, luck, karma. I am not sure what you would call it, but I feel like I have gotten a sign that I am on the right path. You all know my ups and downs with weight. I’ve pretty much tried everything under the sun. I was always looking at food and willpower as my answer. I would have times of great success than times of abject failure. When talking to a friend, she recommended a self-help book that was helping her get her mind straight about food. I’ve tried everything else why not a brain diet. After all my weight problem is really in my head.
The basis of all things in this book is to love yourself. One of the chapters that I have been struggling with is about putting more positive energy into yourself, the world and going for things that you want. I’ve been trying to shake free of my negative thoughts about myself and promote more positive energy. It kind of feels a little bit like mumbo jumbo, but then I got a request from Silk® asking me to try their new product, Nutchello™. At first I did not see any parallel to my new goals of self-love and positive energy. I certainly like their products and use them frequently. Silk® products are naturally lower in sugar, saturated fat and cholesterol so they fit nicely into trying to reduce calories to lose weight. The part that struck me was a mention about finding balance in my life. That is exactly what this book is trying to teach me. I want balance in the foods I eat, in exercise, in loving myself and life in general. I tend to do everything for my family and little for me.
Funnily enough, what is working for me is being kinder to myself. I would beat myself up whenever I did not eat 100% perfectly. I would make myself feel so bad that I would eat to make myself feel better. It is a vicious circle. So I am trying to carve out a little time for myself. I actually scheduled it in, 3pm – 3:30pm. This is when I want to have a little snack and read a book. Over the winter I would happily enjoy a hot cup of tea. Now that temperatures here in Hotlanta are almost 90•, I do not want hot tea. No way, no how. A cup of Silk® Nutchello™ while reading a cookbook or planning our vacation is just the ticket. I like to put my feet up and drink Nutchello™ from a pretty glass while reading. That is how I am learning to center myself and create some balance. I refuse to make myself feel guilty about it. I need this time to unwind before my daughter comes home from school. Then there is homework, more recipe testing, a photo session and finally dinner and dishes.
Nutchello™ is dairy free and nut based. The cold beverage comes in three flavors, Caramel, Almonds + Cashews, Toasted Coconut + Cashew, and Rich Dark Chocolate + Walnuts. I do not think I can pick a favorite. My first sip of the Caramel, Almonds + Cashews reminded me of eating a caramel candy. It had scrumptious caramel flavor. Rich Dark Chocolate + Walnuts tasted just like a chocolate milkshake and the Toasted Coconut + Cashews has a delectable coconut flavor. They all taste like milkshakes but the calories are between 70 and 90 for a glass. So much better than a milkshake. Silk® products are always dairy free and more environmentally friendly as they use less water.
Be sure to take some time out to create more balance in your life. I am sure a lot of you scoffed at that statement but if you do not take care of you, who will? Who will take care of your family? Do you really have a choice? Find a couple of minutes a day to enjoy a glass of Nutchello™ and find your happy place. You will find you are so much better for it.
Look for a fun cocktail and dessert using Nutchello™ in the next week weeks. If you want to be sure to see Food Done Light’s next recipe, Grilled Garlic Butter Sweet Potatoes, subscribe by email below. You won’t want to miss it.
