Throw together an easy, healthy pizza appetizer with a sauce of cheese and garlic topped with charred jalapeno slices, pimentos and more cheese.

Our jalapeno plant has done so well this summer which means I have had to find a lot of different ways to use them. Since it just happens to be National Pizza Month, why not top a pizza with them? Jalapeno Popper White Pizza sounds like the perfect way to celebrate and use up all those lovely home grown jalapenos. White pizza just happens to be my husband’s favorite, so I skipped the tomato sauce in favor of a garlicky, cheesy sauce. It is simple to make with absolutely no cooking involved. Puree all the ingredients in a food processor or blender and your sauce is made. Next to give the jalapeno a little extra flavor, I charred them in a skillet on the stove. They got beautiful blisters on all sides adding a smoky flavor to the pizza. Chopped pimentos added a little color, acid and sweetness. You can always substitute roasted red peppers, if you would prefer.  Finally forget the mozzarella and try topping your pizza with tangy, goat cheese. It adds another layer of flavor. Normally I would cook the pizza on the grill to add more smokiness, but charring the jalapenos did that for me. I threw this delicious baby into the oven for a few minutes to let the flavors mingle together. This is a quick and easy recipe fit for a pizza lover and a jalapeno lover.

I actually love the idea of cutting this pizza into squares and serving as an appetizer for a party. Serve it with some Gallo Family Wines Pinot Grigio. The sweetness of the wine pairs so nicely with the spicy of the pizza. I know people tend to think pizza and beer, but let me tell you pizza and wine is an unbeatable combination.  Instead of ordering pizza on Friday night, you can whip up Jalapeno Popper White Pizza in about 15 minutes.  Open a bottle of wine while it is baking and find some games.  It is the perfect time for Friday Family Game Night.  Both my husband and I love games and now that our little one is old enough, we can enjoy a fun evening together playing games rather than sitting in front of the TV.  I did not seed my jalapeno, but if you want a little less spice remove the seeds after you slice the jalapeno.  You will still get the fantastic flavor but a little less zing. If your family are spice lovers like my husband, then keep the seeds. You can even do half and half. Put jalapeno with seeds on half and jalapeno without seeds on the other half. Then everyone is happy. We are forever making or ordering pizza with two different halves.

Jalapeno Popper White Pizza #SundaySupper

  • 1 10.oz. pre-cooked whole-wheat pizza crust
  • 3 tbsp. low-fat cottage cheese
  • 3 tbsp. low-fat ricotta cheese
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 tsp. Italian or pizza seasoning
  • 1 jalapeno
  • ¼ cup sliced pimento
  • 2 oz. crumbled goat cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 450•.
  2. In a small skillet over medium-high heat, cook the jalapeno until slightly blistered on all sides.
  3. Place on a cutting board and thinly slice*
  4. In a small food processor, puree the cottage cheese, ricotta, garlic and seasonings.
  5. Spread evenly onto the pizza crust.
  6. Place jalapeno and pimentos on top.
  7. Sprinkle with goat cheese.
  8. Bake for 8 minutes.
  9. Cool slightly and cut into 12 squares.

        Thanks Tom. You never know if a jalapeno is going to be spicy or not, but the one I used gave quite a bit of heat to the dish. That is the way I like it.
