Easy appetizer recipe to use up leftover ham salad

What do you do when you have leftover Slow Cooker Teriyaki Ham? You make Lightened Ham Salad, of course. Moreover, you use that ham salad to make a new, quick and easy appetizer, Ham Salad Pear Bites. Your family will especially love the hint of jalapeno on top. In fact think of Ham Salad Pear Bites as the perfect appetizer recipe. First you have a crunchy fresh slice of pear. Second the sweet pear slices are topped with a creamy and savory lightened ham salad. Third to bring all the flavors together, top these healthy appetizers with fresh jalapeno and chives. Also add a sprinkle of fresh black pepper.

Low Carb appetizer using ham salad

You can make the ham salad the day before, but for freshness slice the pear the day you will be serving these. In order to avoid large gaping holes in the middle of pears from the seeds, use a small frosting tip to remove the core. Ultimately you want to remove the seeds but leave the pear intact. To achieve this result, I like to slice the pears first than core each slice separately instead of coring the pear first then slicing. I find the core of pears is rarely straight down the middle of the pear.

Ham Salad Pear Bites

  • 2 cups Ham Salad
  • 2 Pears
  • 1/2 jalapeno deseed and chopped
  • chives


  1. Slice each pear into 11 slices.

  2. Core each slice of pear leaving as much of pear intact as possible.

  3. Top each slice with a little over a tablespoon of ham salad.

  4. Sprinkle with jalapeno, chives and black pepper.
