If it is 6 o’clock on a Friday evening, chances are you can hear ice cubes tumbling into my cocktail shaker. It is cocktail time. I’ve been slowly learning this craft and expanding the drinks that I make. I love to experiment and am finding my tastes have changed dramatically. I never use to like bourbon, gin or martinis. I like them all in moderation now. Actually I just figured out I liked martinis about a month ago. We were out at a restaurant celebrating friends 25th wedding anniversary. One of our friends gave me a sip of their dirty martini with blue cheese olives. Oh man! I loved it so much I ordered one of my own.
When Silk® sent me a bottle of Nutchello™, I knew it would make a fantastic martini. Our neighbor was popping over to get our key so she could take care of furry babies for the weekend. What better time to whip up a new cocktail? I made us these German Chocolate Cake Martinis. Boy are they good, but be aware they are strong. Make sure you are making them when you won’t be driving anywhere. After a few sips, we had her invite her husband over for a cocktail, too. We decided to make it a party and order pizza. We need to do these impromptu get togethers more often. It is so nice to catch up with friends and with ordering pizza I did not have to spend the entire night in the kitchen cooking. Usually when we have people over, I feel like I have to take out all the stops and make a gourmet dinner. They were perfectly happy with pizza, salad and martinis, of course.
We experimented with gin and vodka martinis. I decided to mix them the gin and vodka together too. Martins are so simple that you can make them whatever way you want. I need to get some pretty martini glasses though. I have one which we bought on a cruise a couple of years ago. Isn’t it pretty? I really need a few more. We were drinking the martinis out of water glasses. Man, we were pulling out all the stops – martinis in water glasses and pizza from the local pizza parlour. It may not have been gourmet, but it was a fun, stress-free evening. The kind of evening that makes me heart full with friendship and love.
Shake up some martinis for your friends (as long as they are over 21 yrs old, of course). Be sure to check out Silk®Nutchello™ for more ideas. It is dairy free and naturally low in saturated fat and cholesterol. I’ve got a sweet treat made with Silk®Nutchello™ next month. Don’t miss it.
