You many not have noticed but we were on vacation two weeks ago. My Mom handled things on the blog for me. Wasn’t that so nice of her! I didn’t tell you in advance because I don’t like to publicize that our house is empty for a week. It just doesn’t seem very safe. Anyway we went on the most wonderful Royal Caribbean cruise. For a while I wasn’t sure it was ever going to happen.
We started planning a cruise a few years ago and were supposed to go last year. We had to keep postponing it because of all my husband’s medical problems. Luckily we could prove to them it was a medical condition and didn’t incur any change fees. They were really good about working with us every time we had to reschedule. I think it was two or three times.
Vacations always feel good but this one was more than that. A few weeks before I could feel myself getting very stressed about it. Would my husband’s medical condition deteriorate again? What if we were on the cruise when something happened? What if? I am very good at those questions. I can drive myself c-r-a-z-y. So glad to report, the trip went wonderfully. It felt like a huge victory against my husband’s heart disease.
We had originally planned on surprising our daughter with the news about the cruise but I am not very good at keeping secrets. I blew it! I could not keep my mouth shut. I was so excited and kept talking about it, and of course, I said something about it when she was in air shot. She has the hearing of a bat, she totally zoned in on the word “cruise” and was snickering to herself that she knew where we were going.
We love cruises. They can be as active or as relaxing as you would like. There is always something going on Bingo, Ice Skating, Miniature Golf, Wall Climbing, Flo Rider or laying by the pool sipping a tropical drink. I sure enjoyed my share of tropical drinks! We got to lounge on the beaches of St. Thomas and Coco Cay (Royal Caribbean’s Island) and see the beauty of St. Maarten. We had a tour of the galley. I loved to see the kitchen. I wish I could have seen it while they were cooking. That would have been awesome. We did take a cupcake decorating lesson. Yum, that was a good cupcake. Our daughter got to meet lots of characters like Shrek and the characters from Madagascar. King Julian even interrupted our shuffleboard game.
Mostly we just enjoyed being together as a family. We also won an auction for the Make A Wish foundation and our daughter got to go to the bridge of the ship to meet the Captain and blow the horn. That was a once in a lifetime experience we’ll never forget. We gorged on way too much food and slept in late. It was just what we all needed.
Now that we are back, it is back to the grind of every day life. I’ve gotten off the weight I gained while on vacation and hoping to ride the wave and get some more off. After too much food for a week, I am actually happy to cut back.
What plans do you have for the summer? I would love to hear. I hope you like my little video too. I am attempting to learn to make them so I can do videos for recipes too. This seemed like a good opportunity to have fun with one.
