It took me a long time before I got the nerve to attempt to make my own cranberry sauce. Actually last year was the first time I ever did. After that I wondered what I was worried about. It is so simple! It is funny how you can build up something in your head and make it seem so hard only to find out it really was all in your head. This dish is easy but oh so delicious. It really is worth making your own cranberry sauce. You can add so many different fruits and flavorings to make it different every time. This one is Masala Cranberry Mango Sauce.

This year I was trying to include a little more of my husband’s roots in our Thanksgiving so I naturally went with Indian flavors. I also included one of his favorite liquors, Peach Schnapps. I guess you could say this cranberry mango sauce is an ode to my hubby. It was made with him in mind. I may not be able to write a beautiful love song or a lyrical poem but I can make a mean cranberry sauce for him. Everyone has their talents. I am pretty lucky in the husband department. We celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary this year. Boy time has flown. We meet 12 years ago and I pretty much knew he was the one the first time I heard his voice. Yes, he literally had me at “Hello”. I actually felt “the penny drop“, “the bells ring” – all those silly clichés were true.

Thanksgiving is even better now that we get to make new family traditions and pass down old ones to our daughter. It makes Thanksgiving a little sweeter to see her making the family stuffing and watching the Macy’s Parade waiting for Santa to come. She will grow up with the flavors of America and India combined and learn to appreciate both. Masala Cranberry Mango Sauce

  • 1 (12 oz) bag fresh cranberries
  • 1 mango, diced
  • Zest of clementine or orange
  • Juice of clementine or orange
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup Domino light sugar/stevia mix
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp. garam masala
  • Pinch nutmeg
  • Pinch kosher salt
  • 1 tbsp. peach schnapps
  • 1/2 cup water


  1. In a medium saucepan, mix together all ingredients.
  2. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 20 minutes, or until slightly thickened. Stir occasionally.
  3. Place in a bowl and allow to cook completely. Refrigerate until needed.
