This recipe is an Ode to one of my favorite vacation cocktails, a Bloody Mary. Thanks to Tuttorosso tomatoes, I don’t have to wait for tomato season to make it. Their canned tomatoes taste like tomatoes not the can. Since I seriously need a vacation, I decided to make a dish that would bring me back to the stress-free and fun memories of our last vacation. On the last day of a cruise, I like to get a Bloody Mary. Now this isn’t just any Bloody Mary. They set up a Bloody Mary bar, and you pick what accoutrements you want in it. Since I only have one, I throw in everything I like; olives, bacon, jalapeno, and extra horseradish. Oh yeah, there is tomato juice and vodka in there too.
Guess what is in the marinade? Yes, tomatoes, vodka, celery see; in other words all the fantastic ingredients you need to make a great Bloody Mary. I could go so far as to call this a Double Bloody Mary Flank Steak as in addition to the Bloody Mary marinade there is also a Bloody Mary Relish. This time in addition to the tomatoes, I used olives and jalapeno too. I love to have them in my glass and eat them at when I finish the drink. Plus you can make this relish as spicy (or not) as you want. It is doubly delicious.
I honestly only use Tuttorosso canned tomatoes any more. In fact I will not buy any other kind. I was sold when I did a taste test and really could tell the difference. It isn’t some interest nonsense. Plus I like that their tomatoes are grown on family owned and run farms. Just as important to me is that Tuttorosso has a non-GMO certification. You need to add Bloody Mary Flank Steak to your next BBQ. It would be perfect for Memorial or Father’s Day.
