Usually you will find a lot of kitchen items and cookbooks on my Christmas wish list. While I love different gadgets and kitchen “toys” there are only a few I cannot live without. These are a few of my favorite things.
Isn’t using a silicone whisk aggravating. They bend and don’t keep their shape. Now thanks to Zing! I can use these whisks in my non-stick pans. They are wire with silicone coating on the ends. They are durable but won’t scratch your pans.
A favorite wine of mine, Michael David Winery Petite Petit Red Wine. This is the perfect red wine to me. It is full-bodied with touches of fruit and vanilla. I love that it is dry. You want to savor each sip. I’ve tried lots of different vanilla extracts and always come back to Nielsen-Massey. It’s got pure vanilla flavor. It can be quite costly but I can usually find a bottle at TJMaxx for a great price.
What makes this spice grinder, Rivel, special is that it can grind dry or wet ingredients. We have had ours for about 10 years and it is still going strong. It purees quickly and efficiently. Non-stick skillets don’t tend to last long. I’ve tried a bunch and the T-Fal Professional lasts the longest. As long as you take care of it and don’t use cooking spray, this skillet will last a long time. A silpat mat is a baker’s best friend. I even bake appetizers and rolls on them. I made my Dark Chocolate Corn Bark on them to. They are so versatile and can go in the dishwasher. It took me a long time to find a rolling pin I like. I’ve tried “non-stick” ones, tapered ones but I love the weight of this J.K.Adams Maple Wood Rolling Dowel . The weight allows me to quickly roll out the hardest dough plus keep the dough even.I happened to win an OXO Wine Opener at a Food Blogging conference. I was really impressed with how easily and quick it is to use. You just keep turning the top and the cork comes out. Unwind and the cork pops out of the opener.I hate doing dishes so I am always looking for the littlest kitchen tool I can use. That is why I love these little OXO measuring cups. They work great to measure cocktail ingredients, or liquid ingredients for baking. They are dishwasher safe and don’t take up a lot of room.
It took me a long time to finally buy a fat separator. I thought I didn’t really need it. Ha! I use the OXO fat separator all the time now. I cannot believe how much fat I can get out of gravies and stews. It is also so easy to use, plus it is dishwasher safe.
